Acting as the foundation unit for all design disciplines; Foundation of Design: Representation (FoDR) is renown for being the largest unit at the school of design. It welcomes a wide variety of students from both the design disciplines and other breath subjects.
Overview
The subject aims to introduce students to the design disciplines and the role of representation in contemporary design practices within architecture, landscape architecture, graphic design, performance design and digital technologies. The subject explores a wide variety of representation techniques whether they are orthogonal projection (Module 1), 2D Vector based drawing (Module 2) and 3D Modeling (Module 3 and 4).
The wide variety of projects which the unit explores has always been an interesting challenge although technically easier than other units taught due to being a first year unit. The challenge and reward in FoDR has been more from a teaching point of view with teaching first year students about the design disciplines.
